  • this is tired, old school advice that i followed obediently for so long, but is simply one way to skin the proverbial cat disguised as type 2. for type 2's….of which j have been for 17 years, it is about insulin resistance. get rid of the added fat in the diet, your insulin receptors are free to move glucose in the blood from there to the cells. i went from using levemir insulin to zero meds and now consume 200 to 300 grams carbs daily. the seceet sauce is to do without added fat. within 3 days of zero added fat, my blood sugar was normal…with zero meds. now that i have cleared up my insulin receptors, i use about 40g of added fat daily. i have potatoes every day. when old school thinkers say you have to cut carbs to get blood sugar down, that simply is not accurate……you have to cut back how you consume those carbs…stop drenching them in fat, and you will quickly see positive results….though we should always stay away from simple refined carbs. give it 3 days, and keep checking blood sugar….because it will go down.

  • Your SO RIGHT! It's NOT only about what to eat, It is REALLY about what is eating us! I suffered from obesity most of my life. I Suffered the frustration of Yo-Yo dieting due to underlying hurt, especially in my youth. As far as carbs are concerned the Major Healing carbohydrate is Oatmeal. When we eat the plain Oatmeal- the one in the LG can (Not in the tiny envelopes) 1ST THING in the morning it is proven to stabilize our blood sugar ALL day.   •  I have been on the Association of Diabetes diet and have been losing around 6 to 8 pounds a week although I eat a lot of salads and fruit withing the diets rules and feeling pretty satisfied. I all so stay around 100 to 120 carbs a day and around 1000 calories a day which I guess might be extreme.

  • I was put on a diet of three meals of 60 grams of carbohydrates and two snacks of 15 carbohydrates.Total of 210 carbohydrates.I can't imagine a diet of 20 carbs a fruit cup has 15.

  • I find that eating high fat and protein makes my sugars far too unpredictable. I prefer to eat a high carb, low fat diet. I'm a whole food vegan and I like to eat mostly fruit, veggies, and whole grains. I try to avoid nuts and oils because they make my sugars high for hours. I actually find that the easiest and best way to eat for great sugars is to eat mostly fruit, especially fruit smoothies w/spinach. Fruit is so predictable to inject insulin for.

  • Continuing my last comment, I'm seeing a diabetes educator and dietitian next week and I hope they understand that I do better with just cutting out extremely sugary drinks, and reducing my consumption of rice and chocolate (but I try to eat dark as that seems to make me feel a little better and has little to no effect on my sugar) and don't make me scared about making that choice instead of reducing carbs in general by a lot.
